Community Education Garden

What is a Community Education Garden?

Our space has been designed with children in mind, to investigate, collaborate, and cultivate gardening knowledge, growing both community and competence.

Community and Collaboration

We're excited to grow this initiative in collaboration with like-minded Canadian businesses that share our vision of nurturing the next generation of young gardeners. Together, we can cultivate a community that values sustainability, education, and the joys of gardening.

Long Term Benefits

A community education garden offers powerful long-term benefits that extend well beyond the growing season, creating lasting positive impacts across generations. By providing hands-on opportunities to grow, harvest, and prepare food, these gardens build food literacy and encourage eating local, seasonal, and clean foods, helping individuals make healthier choices throughout their lives. Regular engagement with gardening fosters a meaningful connection to nature, which supports mental well-being and offers therapeutic benefits for people of all ages. For neurodivergent children in particular, gardening can gently reduce food aversions through low-pressure sensory exposure, routine, and curiosity-driven learning. Community gardens also support literacy and learning across generations, as knowledge is shared between elders, families, and children, strengthening cultural and practical understanding of food systems. Over time, these skills contribute to improved health outcomes, reduced household food costs, increased community resilience, and stronger social connections. Collectively, the socio-economic benefits—healthier populations, greater self-sufficiency, and stronger community bonds—compound over a generation, making a better future for the whole community.

Who can join?

Our Community Education Workshops are open to the public. Because we are inside a childcare facility and elementary school, we do take attendance at all events. Due to the preparation and space needs, some events require pre-registering. All Community Education Workshops are Free.

A Garden To Grow In

In 2023, we took a moment to reflect on the strengths and challenges our local families face in today's economy. A significant need that emerged was for children to connect with natural outdoor spaces learn how to grow their own food. Recognizing that access to yard spaces can be a barrier, we partnered with our local school district to create a vibrant space where children can interact with edible plants daily. "A Garden to Grow in" opened as our new outdoor space in September of 2025. Through workshops, we aim to promote food literacy and empower families grow food, no matter their housing.
